What we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how to get rid of it. In plain words, because a notice nobody reads protects nobody.
Who is responsible
Boltlap is built and run by Vineeth Pawar, working as an individual. There is no registered company behind it yet, so if you are looking for one, there is not one to find. Everything here is the responsibility of one person, reachable at the address below.
The short version
- Playing needs no account. You type a nickname and answer questions. We do not ask for your name, your email, your phone number or your roll number.
- Your host sees your session. The person running the room sees the nickname you chose, what you answered, and how fast. They can export it. That is the point of the product, so it is the first thing worth knowing.
- We do not sell anything to anyone. No advertising, no data brokers, no third party trackers.
What we collect when you join a session
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| The nickname you type | To show you on the wall and on the board, and to keep two players apart. |
| Your answers and how long each took | To score the session and to build the host's report. |
| A guest token in a cookie | So you get back into the same room if your phone drops the connection. It is a random identifier, not your identity, and it is set on this site only. |
| Your rough network address | To stop one person flooding a room with joins. It is used for that and discarded. |
What we do not collect
No location, no contacts, no camera or microphone, no device fingerprinting, and no advertising identifiers. There is no mobile app, so nothing is collected from your phone beyond what the browser sends to load a web page.
If you make an account
An account is for hosts and learners, not for playing. It stores your email address, your display name and your tutorial progress. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over. Joining a session with a nickname needs no account and has no age requirement, because it collects nothing that identifies you.
How long we keep it
- Guest session data is anonymised after 30 days. The answers stay in the host's report; the link between them and your guest token does not.
- A host's session reports stay until the host deletes them or closes their account.
- Account data is deleted when you close the account.
Who else touches it
Boltlap runs on other companies' infrastructure. Each one only ever sees what it needs to do its job, and none of them is allowed to use it for anything else.
- Hosting and delivery, which handles every request to this site.
- The database, which stores sessions and reports, hosted in India.
- The live room server, which holds a room in memory while it is running.
- Sign-in, which handles accounts and passwords, for hosts and learners only.
- Privacy-friendly traffic counting, which counts page views without cookies and without following you between sites.
Some of these process data outside India. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the provider's standard contractual terms.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and complain if you are unhappy with the answer. Write to hello@boltlap.com and you will get a reply. If you played as a guest, tell us the room code and roughly when, because a nickname on its own may not be enough to find you, which is rather the point of it.
If we are not resolving it, the grievance route is on the grievance contact page.
If something goes wrong
If data is exposed, we will say so. Affected people and the authorities get told within the timeframes the law requires, and we will publish what happened rather than hope nobody noticed.
Changes
When this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes get a notice on the site rather than a quiet edit.
Boltlap is in pilot and nothing on it costs money yet. This notice describes the service as it runs during the pilot.
