Questions on the wall. Answers from every phone.
Boltlap runs timed live challenges for a room. A host shares a six digit code, phones join with a nickname, and the wall shows the board. Nothing to install, no account needed to play.
Question 3 of 20
Which command makes a new branch and switches to it?
Which command makes a new branch and switches to it?
Locked in. Look up.
How it runs
Four steps, start to finish.
- A host opens a room and picks a question set.
- The room shows a six digit code.
- Phones join with a nickname and answer on a timer.
- The wall shows the answer, then the board.
The wall
What the room sees
One question at a time, sized for the back of the hall.
- The question fills the wall. The timer ring turns orange for the last five seconds, and nothing else on the screen moves.
- The reveal shows what the room picked before it shows who was right.
- The board is a ranked table: position, name, score, and how far behind the leader each player is.
- The podium is the finale. Three steps, medals, and a prize slot the host fills in.
| # | Player | Score | Behind |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Meera | 4,820 | - |
| 2 | Aditya | 4,610 | 210 |
| 3 | Sana | 4,455 | 365 |
| 4 | Rohit | 4,120 | 700 |
The phone
What a phone sees
The phone is a controller. The room is the screen.
- The same lettered tiles, sized for a thumb.
- Once an answer is locked in, the phone says so and tells the player to look up.
- Outside the top twenty, a player sees a band rather than a position, and the one thing they did best. Nobody has to read that they came 147th.
The result a player outside the top twenty sees.

The report
After the session
The part that outlives the session.
- Per question: how many got it, what they picked instead, and how long it took.
- Per player: correctness, speed and partial credit, each shown separately rather than rolled into one number.
- A shortlist by top N or by a cutoff. Ties come through together, so nobody is dropped by a rounding accident.
- Export to CSV.
| Player | Correct | Median time |
|---|---|---|
| Meera | 18 / 20 | 4.1 s |
| Aditya | 17 / 20 | 5.0 s |
| Sana | 17 / 20 | 5.2 s |
Learn
Learn Git by watching it happen
Eight tutorials on Git and open source, taught through analogies, with the commit graph drawing itself beside the slide.
- A few minutes each.
- A check at the end of every tutorial. Every option carries an explanation, not just the right one.
Tutorial 3: branches and merging
Who it is for
Rooms that already meet.
Colleges
Run a session in a lecture hall or a lab. Everyone plays on the phone they already have, and nobody installs anything.
Training centres
Find out what a cohort actually retained at the end of the session, not a week later.
Companies
Screen a room of candidates in one sitting, then take the shortlist away as a CSV.
Cost
What it costs
Free while Boltlap is in pilot. Everything on this page is free right now, and there is nothing to buy, because payments are not live yet.
When they are, hosting a small session stays free. The paid shapes will be a single event pass, a plan for educators, a plan for teams that need identity checks and shortlist tools, and a licence for a whole college. Prices are not set yet. Tutorials stay free.
- Event pass
- Educator
- Teams
- College licence
Honestly
What it does not do yet
- Race, the coding challenge product, is not built.
- There is no marketplace for question sets.
- There is no mobile app, and there will not be one. The phone side is a web page.
- Payments are not live.
- Boltlap has not run a public session yet.
